DANDRIDGE – Senior guard Makenzie Alvey threw in a one-handed shot from deep in the backcourt at the buzzer to give Jefferson County a 22-14 lead over Cocke County after one quarter.
The desperation shot served as an inkling that it was going to be a Lady-Patriots-kind-of-night Tuesday as Jefferson County turned back the Lady Red 58-51 in a non-district matchup of Upper East Tennessee teams.
The high-energy Alvey scored a team-high 24 points, speared eight rebounds and ignited the defensive charge as Jefferson County forced 22 turnovers.
