MORRISTOWN – The quality early season wins are piling up for Morristown East’s boys basketball team.
The Hurricanes, playing their fifth opponent that qualified for the state tournament last season, handled Greeneville 65-53 on Tuesday.
East (5-3) has already upset defending Division II-AA state champion Catholic and knocked off Maryville, which qualified for the Class AAA tournament a year ago.
The Hurricanes have suffered close losses to two other state qualifiers from a year ago – Oak Ridge and Webb.
“We try to load up (our schedule) as much as we can at the beginning of the year,” said East coach Alden Collins.
“We believe we have as much talent as anybody in the area and we want to play teams that have as much talent as we do.”
