CORRYTON — Just after some thunderstorms passed through Knox County on Friday night, Halls quarterback Amari Lethgo got the fireworks started on night two of the 2024 KOC Kickoff Classic.
Lethgo tossed a 53-yard pass to Brody Rogers then handed it off to Marcus Moore for a 23-yard touchdown. His defense got a red zone stop against The King’s Academy, and Lethgo launched a 93-yard touchdown pass to Rogers again to end his night of work.
The quick, 146-yard passing day from Lethgo on Friday is a sign of what is to come, according to Halls head coach Brent Hughes.
“He’s going to be the reason we win or lose football games because he’s that special,” Hughes said. “He’s a kid that, at the end of the day, he continues to grow. He played six games as a freshman, started every game last year. He’s a natural leader, a natural competitor.
“I can’t say enough about him and everybody’s going to see how good he is.”
The Red Devils added a interception-return score from Manny Noe and a 36-yard touchdown run from Harlen Hunley to cap off the day’s scoring.
The King’s Academy added a touchdown at the horn from Mason Eckerson to make it a 28-6 final in quarter No. 1.
“It’s a good event, but I told our kids, ‘I don’t know when you’re coming out so you better be ready to play,’” Hughes said. “And I feel like they answered that call, made some great plays. Coach (Jonathan) Sellers does a great job over there. They got good coaches so it was just good for us to make plays and see our athletes because we got athletes.”
