All eyes zeroed in Friday night on Kaden Martin, the sophomore lefty who was making his first start at quarterback for the Catholic football team.
Martin gave them plenty to behold against Science Hill.
He reached the half with 231 yards passing and three touchdowns (46, 60 and 48 yards), and the Irish rode that 29-point halftime advantage to a 48-17 win over visiting Science Hill.
Catholic (3-2) did not turn the ball over against the Hilltoppers (2-4) and rang up 431 yards of offense. Some 306 yards of that total mark came via the pass — seemingly the missing ingredient through the first half of the season.
Friday’s offensive showing might just be the shot in the arm the Irish (0-2 Division II-AAA) need before hosting four-time defending state Brentwood Academy (5-1, 1-1) on ESPN2 at 8:03 p.m. Thursday.
