MARYVILLE — The postgame celebration could be heard over the sound of rain pelting pads.
Not only did Maryville’s 30-0 slogfest win over McMinn County hand the Cherokees their first loss of the season, it also locked up the Region 2-6A title, a regular occurrence at Maryville over the last two decades.
The championship was the 19th consecutive for the Rebels, with the 2000 season being the last time Maryville failed to come away with a region title.
