MARYVILLE — Nolan White never knew anything other than Maryville as region champions.
The senior defensive back and wide receiver was born in the early years of what became a 22-year region championship streak that started in 2001 and came to an unexpected end last season during his junior campaign.
It was a failure that fueled the Rebels over the past year, and on Friday they made their time away from the throne short-lived, defeating Cleveland, 37-15, inside Shields Stadium to claim the Region 2-6A title.
“It feels absolutely amazing, especially for this senior class because we’ve been through so much,” White told 5 Star Preps. “I appreciate it so much more now because it was something that was just there. We won a lot (in the past), but we were just good.
“Last year, we had a bunch of injuries and we couldn’t win it, but having it back, it just feels amazing.”
