Bo Cagle, the longtime football coach at McMinn County High School, enjoyed a 9-1 mark in the regular season last fall.
The lone loss came to eventual 6A state champion Maryville, and the Cherokees managed to host a playoff game.
But Cagle has plenty of motivation to do even better going into 2020.
No. 1, the Cherokees lost in the first round of the playoffs to Bearden.
No. 2, he’ll return two Division I prospects on offense who were all-state and First Team All-5Star Preps selections.
“We haven’t had many come around the last few years,” Cagle said of college recruiters. “We’re getting our doors knocked down because of them. That’s a great thing. We’ve had several other players, especially one of our defensive linemen, getting looks because of these two.
“It’s exciting for this area to get people to notice us again.”
