MARYVILLE – There’s a gamut of tough games on Maryville’s schedule this year, and the Rebels got through a big one Thursday night.
Junior Noah Vaughn rushed for 205 yards and four touchdowns and Maryville rode its second-half defense for a 52-31 victory over Powell in a non-region game.
Maryville (2-0) is ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 6A by the Associated Press and Powell (1-1) is ranked No. 1 in Class 5A.
“Powell’s the No. 1 5A team in the state for a reason,” Maryville coach Derek Hunt said. “They’re going to win a lot of football games this year. There’s some good teams in 5A, but they’re going to be a tough out.”
