Oak Ridge students chanted “Sami! Sami! Sami!” Tuesday night as the Lady Wildcats boarded their team bus to leave the Powell Soccer Complex.
Junior goalkeeper Sami Jaffery made a save on a penalty kick at the end of regulation, and Oak Ridge beat Powell 2-1 by scoring an own-goal with 4 minutes, 26 seconds left in the first 10-minute golden-goal overtime.
Oak Ridge (10-2, 4-0 in District 3-AAA) clinched the No. 1 seeding for the district tournament with their first victory over Powell (7-3-1, 3-1) since the 2016 season.
