The softball teams at Union County and Gibbs high schools met pretty often last season.
Twice in the regular season.
Gibbs took both of those, as well as the district tournament championship.
But Union County avenged those defeats by beating Gibbs in the 2021 Region 2-AA Tournament Championship.
Both programs went on to play in the state tournament.
Union County proved a thorn in Gibbs’ paw again on Monday, knocking off Gibbs and snapping the Lady Eagles’ nine-game win streak with a 2-1 win at Gibbs. The two will rematch on April 20 at Union County.
Evan Hopkins took in the game Monday for 5Star Preps and jotted down these observations, even getting some comments from both head coaches about the standout players from the game.
