MORRISTOWN – Junior post Ella Wampler set the tempo early and Morristown East cruised past rival Morristown West 53-44 in the District 2-4A semifinals Thursday night on the Lady Hurricanes’ home court.
It’s the first time since 2011-12 that East has defeated West twice in a season.
No. 3 seeded East (22-8) advances to Saturday’s 6 p.m. district title matchup against top-seeded Sevier County (26-3).
The Bearettes were pushed to the limit in their Thursday semifinal game by fourth-seeded Jefferson County (11-15).
Sevier County rallied from six points down in the fourth quarter to pull out a 35-33 win.
No. 2 West and Jefferson County play in the consolation game at 3 p.m. Saturday.
