The football programs at Powell and Central — two state powers in Class 5A — acted fast on Wednesday and agreed to play a game Saturday night in Fountain City.
The anticipation and build-up for the contest spiked equally as fast on social media upon the announcement. And rightfully so. Both teams were state-ranked.
The contest was billed to be Powell’s prolific passing offense against Central’s highly touted defense — the latter of which helped the Bobcats win 5A state titles in 2018 and 2019.
But Saturday night, the Powell defense stole the show, hushed the hype around the game and ushered the Panthers out of Central’s Dan Y. Boring Stadium with a convincing win.
