It wasn’t exactly a do-or-die scenario Thursday night for area girls’ soccer teams competing for region championships.
But the winners get home-field advantage in Saturday’s state sectionals. The losers travel on Saturday.
Region 1-A Championship
Alcoa 2, Gatlinburg-Pittman 1: The Lady Tornadoes repeated as region champion thanks to Peiton Bledsoe’s go-ahead score midway through the second half. Alcoa, the 2017 Class A state champion, will host Oneida in the state sectionals on Saturday.
Gatlinburg-Pittman will travel to Region 2-A champion Polk County, which won 3-2 in double overtime on Thursday.
Region 1-AA
Seymour 1, Greeneville 0: The Eagles scored with roughly 15 minutes left on a goal by Abbie Biddle, and Seymour captured a region championship. The Eagles will host Knoxville Central in a state sectional on Saturday.
Knoxville Catholic won the Region 2-AA Championship, 8-1, over Knoxville Central. The Lady Irish will host Greeneville in the sectionals.
Region 3-AA
Anderson County 1, Scott 0: Thelma Guidino’s goal was all the Lady Mavs needed to capture a region championship. They’ll host East Hamilton, 2-1 losers to McMinn Central in the Region 4-AA finale, in Saturday’s state sectionals. Scott will play at McMinn Central.
Region 2-AAA
Maryville 3, Hardin Valley 1: The host Lady Rebels jumped out to a 3-0 lead and didn’t let a late goal by HVA’s Mackenzie Smith spark a rally. Maryville will play host to Region 1-AAA runner-up Science Hill in the state sectionals.
Hardin Valley will travel to face Bearden, which won Region 1-AAA by a 3-0 count.
