Hardin Valley Academy’s plans for Murfreesboro and the Class AAA boys’ state soccer tournament came to a screeching halt Saturday night.
Junior forward Samuel Moody scored three goals and Johnson City Science Hill rallied for a 4-2 victory over the host Hawks in a state sectional match.
Science Hill (11-10) advances to the state tournament for the first time since 2017 when it reached the Class AAA semifinals.
The Hilltoppers play their quarterfinal match Tuesday at 4 or 4:30 at Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro.
“I am disappointed that we didn’t win this game,” HVA coach Ray Dover said. “I felt like this was one that we certainly should have won, but you learn from your losses sometimes more than you do your wins, so we’ll get better and come back next year very strong.”
