LENOIR CITY – Anderson County football coach Davey Gillum saw plenty of positives Monday night during his team’s first preseason scrimmage against Lenoir City.
Starting quarterback Landen Hensley was making the throws, running back Waylon LaRue was running and catching the ball, and the receivers were making plays.
And perhaps what Gillum liked most was his team’s play on the offensive and defensive lines.
“When we got bodies on bodies, we were definitely physical up front on both sides of the ball,” Gillum said. “Our offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage. Same on defense. If you can win that line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, you’ve got a good chance to be a good football team.
“I was really excited in that respect. That’s who we need to be, who we’re aiming to be, a big, strong, football team. I thought we took a step in the right direction for that tonight.”
Anderson County had the upper hand in the controlled scrimmage, scoring the only two touchdowns of the night by starters.
