SEVIERVILLE — Twenty years worth of emotion came spilling onto Sevier County’s court in a purple wave Saturday night.
The Bearettes are back in the state tournament, thanks to a 56-39 win over Heritage in a girls basketball state sectional.
Maybe Sevier County’s players didn’t feel the full weight of the drought. After all, they weren’t even alive in 2003, when the Bearettes last made the state tournament.
But Sevier County (26-7) had been knocked out in this stage of the postseason the past two years, so getting over the hump was a big deal either way.
