Sevier County’s youthful boys’ basketball team played like a group of seasoned veterans Monday night.
Sophomore guard/forward Reed Ownby had 20 points and the Smoky Bears stunned host Karns 70-59 in a Class 4A sectional game.
Sevier County (17-14) clinched its fourth state tournament berth in program history and its first since 2019 when it lost in the Class AAA quarterfinals.
Ownby started Monday’s game alongside three freshmen and senior guard/forward Caleb Tarwater, the only senior on the team.
There are seven freshmen on Sevier County’s varsity roster.
