For a minute Monday night, the on-court celebration stopped.
Just briefly.
Fans, coaches, players, teachers, administrators — and basically anyone wearing purple — were on the hardwood celebrating the Smoky Bears’ 62-57 Class AAA state sectional win over Oak Ridge when a voice boomed over the public-address system.
He asked the entire fan base one big favor — for donations.
Sevier County will be going back to the state tournament in Murfreesboro for the first time since 1991 and the offering plate needed to be filled to help the team with the impending expense bill.
