Lexanne Halama made her push for a TSSAA state title. The Lady Admirals golf team did, too.
But Wednesday, both bids fell a tad shy of claiming gold.
Halama shot a final-round, 1-over 73 at WillowBrook Golf Course in Manchester. Her score was the second best in the field at the Division I – Large Class tournament but her 147 total left her three shots back of eventual winner Lynn Lim of Station Camp (73-144).
Aynsleigh Martin of Farragut carded a 75 Wednesday, and she and Halama combined for a second-day 148, which proved to be the best of the day and moved the Lady Admirals from fourth into second place.
Their 300 two-day mark ended up two shots behind of Station Camp.
Martin tied for 11th (153). Ainsley Simms of Maryville finished eighteenth (81–160).
On the boys’ leaderboard, Farragut’s Lance Simpson was seeking to repeat as individual state champion. He opened with a 72 but a final-round 75 didn’t allow for a final-round comeback. He entered Wednesday trailing 18-hole leader Jon Wes Lovelace by four strokes.
Lovelace slipped on Day 2. But Crockett County’s Jaden Zimmer shot a second consecutive 70 to win the individual title at 4-under 140. Lovelace followed his 68 with a 73 and claimed second, one shot back.
Simpson wound up seven shots behind Zimmer and in ninth place. The Farragut boys team finished in fifth place, 52 strokes behind winner Franklin.
Kobe Watson of McMinn County was the only other local golfer to finish in the top 20, as his rounds of 77 and 78 tied him for 19th.
