The Christian Academy of Knoxville golf programs have been accumulating new hardware for their trophy case this postseason, but the boys and girls teams will get the opportunity next week to secure the best trophies the TSSAA has to offer.
Via their Division II-A East region championships Monday at Three Ridges Golf Course, the Lady Warriors and Warriors reserved themselves spots in next week’s TSSAA State Championships at WillowBrook in Manchester.
CAK knows the state-title stage, well. The girls have won state championships in 2001, 2015 and 2016. The boys have won two state championships in a row and five overall.
The Warriors will definitely be one of the favorites next week, as they posted a 1-under 287 total in region play Monday to win by 21 shots over runner-up Webb School of Knoxville.
State Bound! This will be Jacksons third year going to state with this team! So proud of all of these boys! Congrats on shooting -2 under (70). @JacksonHughey2 pic.twitter.com/PB8BkFMWgB

CAK’s Jackson Hughey led the way with a 2-under 70. Aaron Frazer (71), Benjamin Johnston (72) and John Meadows (74) rounded out the team total for CAK, which played without star sophomore Kaleb Wilson.
Wilson, who shot 7-under 65 in the district tournament last week at Three Ridges, sat this round out so his teammates could get a little more experience under tournament conditions prior to next week’s state tournament. Hughey sat out the district tournament.
Webb’s Reece Britt, though, led all participants Monday with a 5-under 67 to earn medalist honors. The Spartans also secured a spot next week at state with their team runner-up finish.
Berean Christian’s Cooper Hayes (70) and Grace Christian’s Spencer Myers (73) will participate next week at state as individuals.
The CAK girls team got a tournament-best 77 from Kate Faulkner to lead the way. She and Allie Cooper (84) combined to post a 161, good enough for a 45-shot win over Boyd-Buchanan.
Taylor Carter from The King’s Academy shot 88 and Collegedale’s Isha Desai carded an 89 to earn spots in next week’s state tournament as individuals.
Play begins Monday at WillowBrook with the final round coming on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
