PLEASE NOTE: All-5Star Preps teams are not recruiting lists. They are teams compiled based on how individuals perform during the season, taking into account their individual skills, their statistics, accolades, team success, coach recommendation, character, etc…
The 5Star Preps coverage area encompasses nearly 70 schools — as far east as Greeneville and Elizabethton, as far north as Jellico, as far west as Stone Memorial and as far south as the McMinn areas.
FIRST TEAM
Lukas Walls, Webb
senior, 6-4, guard/forward
Walls, a Samford signee and Division II-AA Mr. Basketball, averaged 19 points and seven rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from 3 and 58 percent from inside the arc. Webb won its region and reached the state semifinals.
Caden Windle, William Blount
junior, 6-5, guard
William Blount had a banner season and nearly reached the Class 4A state tournament. Windle was the Govs’ top producer with 23.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 40.3 percent from 3.
Shane Cherry, Austin-East
sophomore, 5-11, guard
A Class 3A Mr. Basketball finalist and Division I prospect, Cherry has already well surpassed 1,000 points for his career. The 2022-23 5Star Preps Boys Underclassman of the Year led the Roadrunners to the Class 3A state sectionals and averaged 28.1 points, 4.0 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game along the way.
Denaj Kimber, Fulton
junior, 6-3, guard
Kimber led the 3A state-champion Falcons in a plethora of categories, such as scoring (15.9 points), assists (3.8), steals (2.3), and 3-pointers made (54). He was also second on the team in rebounding (4.5 per game).
Tyler Lee, Fulton
junior, 6-5, forward
A versatile player who showed his skill set in the state tournament, Lee was the state tournament MVP in Fulton’s march to the 3A title. For the season, he averaged 13.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
Jahvin Carter, Alcoa
junior, 6-2, guard
The 2022-23 5Star Preps Boys Basketball Player of the Year and Class 2A Mr. Basketball finalist led Alcoa to a state title. The 2A Tournament MVP already surpassed 2,000 career points and, during his junior year, averaged 26 points, 4.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
J.J. Faulkner, Karns
senior, 6-0, guard
One of the top true point guards in East Tennessee, Faulkner helped Karns capture a Region 2-4A title. The District 3-4A MVP averaged 22 points, six assists, four rebounds, and four steals per game.
SECOND TEAM
Deondrea Lindsey, Catholic
sophomore, 6-8, forward
A sought-after college prospect, Lindsey had his breakout season in 2022-23. He earned Division II-AA Mr. Basketball finalist honors and averaged 16.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Taj Kimber, Fulton
junior, 6-3, guard
Kimber missed 11 games this season because of injury but was invaluable during the Falcons’ postseason run. He averaged 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game. At state, though, he had a 26-point outburst in the championship game, making 12 of 13 shots.
Trey Thompson, Greeneville
freshman, 6-6, forward
A ninth-grader with serious veteran-player vibes, Thompson impressed many in his first run through varsity ball — averaging 16.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game for the Greene Devils. Moreover, he shot 43.6 percent from 3.
Jaylen Roberts, Karns
senior, 6-3, guard/forward
A prolific dunker and top-shelf athlete, Roberts played a key role in Karns reaching the 4A state sectionals. He averaged 15 points and shot 47 percent from the floor. He also averaged five rebounds and 2.5 blocks.
Ty Glasper, Gatlinburg-Pittman
sophomore, 5-11, guard
Already over 1,000 points for his career, Glasper finished his sophomore season averaging 24.1 points per game with 5.4 assists, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. He led G-P to its second consecutive Class 2A state sectional appearance.
Cade Capps, Stone Memorial
sophomore, 6-5, guard
Capps followed up a standout freshman campaign with an even stronger sophomore season. Stone fell to eventual state-champ Fulton in the sectional round. Capps led the way with 19.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
Matthew Bilbrey, Stone Memorial
senior, 5-11, guard
Bilbery teamed with Capps to give Stone Memorial a solid season and sectionals appearance. He averaged 18.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while popping in a ridiculous 51 percent of his 3s (118 attempts).
THIRD TEAM
Grady Robertson, William Blount
junior, 6-5, guard
A big part of William Blount’s run to the 4A sectionals, Robertson averaged 15.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. The Govs captured the District 4-4A Tournament title and ultimately won 30 games.
Hayden Smith, McMinn County
senior, 6-5, forward
McMinn County (27-8) enjoyed a return to relevance this season and even reached the 4A state tournament. Smith was a standout in a balanced lineup, giving the Cherokees 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks per game.
Caleb Tarwater, Sevier County
senior, 6-1, guard/forward
Sevier County went from a 6-8 team on Jan. 1 to a Class 4A state tournament quarterfinalist. Tarwater helped the youth-laden Smoky Bears get there with 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
Drake Ingram, Webb School of Knoxville
junior, 6-2, guard
Ingram thrived in his junior season, one in which he took on more of a prominent role within the offense. He averaged 12 points per game behind teammate and Mr. Basketball Lukas Walls (19 points per game) and shot 40 percent from 3 in more than 200 attempts.
Harrison Rollins, The King’s Academy
junior, 6-4, forward/guard
Rollins paced TKA’s 27-win season that also featured the Lions reaching the Division II-A state quarterfinals. A recipient of multiple MVP awards throughout the season and playoffs, Rollins averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds in the postseason.
Ty Pryor, Rockwood
junior, 6-0, guard
An all-state guard and volume scorer, Pryor complemented his scoring touch (22.7 points per game) with 6.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. He shot 42 percent from beyond the arc.
Chris Bozeman, Central
junior, 6-0, guard
One of the breakout stars of the 2022-23 season, Bozeman had some big-time scoring nights. He wound up averaging 21.7 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals per game, leading the Bobcats to a Region 2-4A appearance.
