Sevier County High School’s Tony Linginfelter, like most of the football coaches back in the day, initially shuddered at the mere thought of it.
When the TSSAA announced in the mid-1990s that it was implementing a dead period before the start of fall football practice to alleviate the stress placed on its athletes, Linginfelter thought it was the craziest thing he had ever heard of.
