Webb School of Knoxville football coach David Meske was the center of attention Friday night when the Spartans played host to Chattanooga Boyd-Buchanan.
Former players came from near and far to honor Meske, who announced his retirement before the start of the season.
His accolades were read over the public-address system at halftime as Meske and his wife, Lyn, walked between a row of former players and their wives on the field.
Webb had a 21-0 halftime lead on its way to a 42-7 victory over Boyd-Buchanan.
When it was over, Meske met briefly on the field with Bucs coach Gary Rankin in a meeting of Hall of Fame coaches.
“He’s one of the good guys,” said Rankin, who coached Murfreesboro Riverdale to four state titles and Alcoa to 13 state titles before taking over at Boyd-Buchanan this year.
