MURFREESBORO – Webb School of Knoxville tennis coach Jim Pitkanen didn’t get to see much of his girls’ 4-0 victory over St. George’s in the Division II-A state championship match Wednesday afternoon at Old Fort Park’s Adams Tennis Complex.
Pitkanen was too busy coaching his boys to a grueling 4-2 win over Christian Academy of Knoxville in the Division II-A state final, so he assigned his assistant coaches, Morgan Douglas and Davis Price, to coach the girls’ match.
Only minutes after the Spartans (13-5) won their third consecutive state title, Pitkanen saw part of a match when the Lady Spartans (18-2) clinched their state-record 10th straight state championship.
